Second Region with the largest population in France with its 7.8 billions inhabitants, the Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes Region gathers 12% of the French population and cover 13% of the metropolitan territory. The current president is Laurent Wauquiez, elected on January 4, 2016.

With three massifs (Massif Central, Alpes, Jura) and almost 70% of its territory situated in the moutains, the Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes Regions establishes itself as the most mountainous European Region and offers the largest skiing area of the world.

Backed by a GDP of 240 billion euros, the economy of the Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes Region depends first on the service sector which creates more than half of the regional added value. First industrial region in France, Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes gathers 500 000 industrial jobs, in sectors such as metallurgy, plastics, electronics, IT, aeronautics, chemistry, textile, bar turning and cutlery industry. Fourteen competitiveness clusters and eighteen regional clusters contribute to the emergence of innovative projects in theses sectors, especially in creative and digital industries.

Very open towards the international, the Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes Region has created a large network with other territories in Europe and all over the world. The Region now supports international projects, encourages the mobility of its citizens – especially the youth – and supports regional businesses in the export of their skills.

On a day-to-day basis, the Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes Region strives to improve the quality of life of its inhabitants by actively working on the fields of Youth, professional training, transportations, economic development, research and innovation, digital, culture, agriculture and spatial planning.
